It is amazing that even though there are huge differences between the brain and mind we are still fuzzy about the differences between the two. There are a zillions of individual indications of differences one can clearly see in everyday life. Perhaps the sages and mavens who are trying to figure out the differences between the the two have both their brain and mind on the same page. So they reflect their own inside out reality when figuring out the true nature and properties of the brain mind relationship. When a person like me reflects and researches on the brain and mind my own inside out view, that is my first hand experience, it clearly shows that the brain and mind are two distinct though interdependent entities.
Understand that the mind is you/self/I even though it is not the full you but it is the mental and emotional and personality part of you. The other part of you is the body part of you which includes the organs of your body. The chief organ being the brain. Your brain is your chief tool that enables you to know, understand and become who you become; how you relate to others and how you learn to control and live the ropes of life.
Your I/mind/me/self is determined by the level of your brain development. And your brain development is dependent on how free the brain is of the emotional baggage that the brain accumulates during the early upbringing phase of our lives and the belief upbringing baggage that our parents, group, society and country embeds in our subconscious brains. Once this emotional baggage is taken out of the brain the brain develops to the level that it projects the true self.
One of the ways one can tell is when we observe an addiction. Suppose there is a chain smoker. He is at a stage where his lungs are in constant pain. He desperately wants to get out of his pain and misery. He wants to quit smoking. His desire to get out of this self made situation comes from his own self which is the mind. His brain on the other hand is deeply frustrated for the nicotine fix. The brain wants to smoke now. The mind wants to quit and is frustrated that the addiction is killing him. The brain and mind are both frustrated. So we think that 'the I/me/self' is frustrated. But it is very clear that the brain and mind frustrations are very different as different as night and day. But in the confusion of the pain and misery we see the compound frustration and we do not realize where the two distinct frustrations are coming from separate sources. But if you reflect in the light of my insight you will see that the two frustrations are as distinct as tooth ache and a bone fracture.
Again take the example of a 24/7 horny person. He is always turned on. He is addicted to sex. His hunger for sex is insatiable. Most who fall into this trap realize their predicament when it is too late to get out of this addiction. It is the self/I/mind that realizes that the person is in a very big hole. He wants to be free of this trap. So he feels that it is his whole being that wants to get rid of his horniness. But the reality is that the mind is the one which wants to get out of this addiction. The brain is the one that is producing the extra sex hormones that need to be satisfied. It is like a fire is raging and affecting the whole body and to douse this fire the brain needs sex. So there is again a constant struggle between the brain and mind. The mind is frustrated due to all the ill affects and effects of 24/7 horniness. The brain is frustrated for not getting more and more sex. Again the frustrations of the brain and mind are different. Yet we just feel frustrated over all.
In everyday life when we do something on a whim without reflecting on it, it is our brain that is controlling the behavior. When a shy person is struggling to be free of shyness then the mind is trying to be free and the brain is generating the shyness. When one looses ones anger it is the brain that is acting up. When we are short of cash and we still gamble it is the brain that is controlling the behavior.
There are a whole range of practical benefits to knowing the differences between the brain and mind. One can learn to differentiate and understand which emotions are originating from the brain and which are coming from the mind. One can start to break the compound I/me feeling into what the mind is feeling and what the brain is feeling. Then one can start to associate the self/I/me with the mind perspective as the self perspective. This way we can distinguish the frustration that is coming from the mind and that is coming from the brain.
Then we can figure out how to correct the situation. One has to take steps to gradually weaken the hunger and addiction coming from the brain. A good way is to put the whole life situation of addiction in the context of the brain and mind differences. Identify with the mind and put ones focus on the brain.
Take the example of how to get out of horniness. Realize that the mind/I/me/self does not want horniness. Wake up to the fact that the brain wants horniness. The brain is an organ of your body. Just as you are able to control your hands you should be able to control your brain. In the case of horniness addiction the mind looses control to the brain; which means its you loosing control to your brain. So the first step is to realize that the mind is the boss and no matter how sever the addiction you/your mind will eventually put the brain in its place. You will change the brain! And this is done by identifying the mind as your real self. And then begin to change your brain.
Knowing the exact differences between the brain and mind has huge applications for life education and as you can see for becoming addiction free. The fact of the matter is we see our apparent addictions quite clearly and we even want to get rid of them. But what we don't see is in the best of circumstance we are mostly all addicted to the extent that many parts of our life are controlled by our brain. The biggest addiction that we American have is that we are addicted to our trophy self image. The self image is a brain generated addiction and like every addiction it produces desires that cannot be fully fulfilled. So we feel frustrated. But this frustration again is coming not from our true self/mind. It is coming from the brain.
Many of our most common addictions we see as part of our human nature, which we think have to be controlled and managed. As we consider human nature as being innate we do not even think of getting rid of the so called innate human nature traits. No wonder most of our education of the mind we design to enable us with the abilities to manage and control our basic human nature traits. If only we could see the distinctions between the human nature traits that come from the different levels of the brain/mind complex. If only we could see the distinctions between the traits of the brain and the traits of the mind.
I really need a thousand pages just to list the proofs of the brain mind differences and our sages and mavens are still struggling to see the differences!!! They still figure the mind brain distinction as fuzzy!!!! Probably because their own brain and mind are so well adjusted that there is no distinguishing emotional differences between their brains and minds. They experience smooth emotions and naturally feel no frustrating emotional struggles. And so the smooth brain mind relationships which they experience first hand deeply colors their research on the brain mind relationship in general. Their inside out first hand experience of their own emotionally well integrated self/mind and brain produces one unified emotion. This well adjusted brain/mind emotion is felt as one because the brain and mind are both on the same page. So it is hard for our mavens to distinguish first hand as to what part is being generated by the brain and what part is generated by the mind.
No wonder for the world of the mind sciences it is impossible to see the emotions as being generated by the brain and mind separately! It is like two flash lights generating white light that is being pointed to a dark area. When the two lights merge it is hard to tell the distinction between the two. They appear one and for all practical purposes have become one. When one is blue light and the other is white light then we can tell the difference. Well please take it from a veteran of deep emotional holes that the brain and mind both trigger their own separate emotions!!!
If I can just wake up the main stream powers of the mind sciences to the distinct properties of the brain and mind we can be on the fast tract to figuring out cutting edge emotional intelligence educational programs that can create wise individuals, groups, companies and countries.
The sooner we realize the differences between the brain and mind the sooner we can go to the drawing board to create all kinds of educational programs including the most important: a compulsory subject that trains our brain to become an organ of our body, completely controlled by the mind; our true self.
Knowing the difference between the brain and mind opens up a whole new road to brain mind education. As almost all emotional intelligence brain mind problems stem from the EBG in the brain, we will have to develop brain mind exercises that will free the brain of all EBG. The brain gets stalled at the lower level due to the EBG that powers and projects the lower level mind. As the EBG is removed the brain's drawbacks to projecting a finer mind are also removed. Cleaning up the brain of EBG creates a newer kind of brain power that projects the right kind of mind.
Waking up to this reality will open up hundreds of new brain mind exercises that will clean up the brain mind act. We must realize that the current life is perceived by the mind. The mind passes this perception to the brain and the brain interprets this information through the entrenched brain patterns. The entrenched brain patterns are the EBG created emotional and physical properties of the brain that create this rift between the brain and mind. Thus the stumbling block to a super mature brain and mind is this old brain pattern. Again these patterns are caused by the EBG in the brain. So we have to develop brain mind exercises that clean the brain of the EBG.
The first step is to show the student how to distinguish between his very own brain and mind. As all emotional holes are created by the garbage powered brain we have to take each specific hole of each student and show him the cause of his emotional hole. Suppose the student is shy and he wants to get rid of his shyness. The first thing the student is made to do is to realize and associate the self with that part of the brain mind that is wanting to get rid of the shyness. And it is the mind that wants to get rid of the shyness. So the student is made to associate with his mind's desire to be shyness free. Now the gaze of the I/mind is fixed on the irrational shyness pattern that is generated by the brain. The first thing that the student realizes is that he is not shy. It is the brain that is forcing him to be shy. So instead of 'I am shy the thought is introduced that the I is not shy. A distance is created between the mind/I and the shyness causing brain.
The next step is to wake up to the true nature of the brain. The brains true qualities are distorted by the EBG in the brain. When the brain is EBG free it performs at its peak. Thus in order to have a peak performance brain one needs to remove the EBG from the brain. Thus the next thought that the student is awakened to is that even the brain is OK. It is the EBG that is the problem. Then the student is taught how to remove the EBG from the brain.
For many the bigger problem is over worry of being seen as defective, the problem of worrying that one has this problem. The student is shown that as this defect is not in the self/mind/I and is not even in the brain this extra worry is irrational. And the student is made aware that above and beyond the fact that our mind and brain is not to blame; and that it is just our EBG that is to blame, that others don't really care what goes on in our brains and minds. Most others have their own EBG to take care of.
They are made to realize that the I/mind/self is not fixed. And what an honor it will be for one to be able to say, "I/mind/me/self crafted to perfection by my own mind."
I can show you how your I/mind/me/self can be crafted to perfection by your own mind. It can be done by identifying your self with your mind and focusing on changing your brain physically by changing it emotionally.
