Why emotional intelligence/wisdom is so hard to acquire for older students.

Education is about learning ideas, gaining insights and about stretching the frontiers of knowledge for each student. Above all it is about replacing ignorance with knowledge. When it comes to say teaching math it involves replacing the ignorance regarding math, or replacing a simpler math knowledge with a more advance knowledge. The brain readily replaces the old inferior knowledge with the new advance knowledge enthusiastically and smoothly; when the student is eager to learn. As not only the brain has no emotional attachment to the old knowledge it is egarly excited with enthusiasm to replace the old with the new. Thus the brain looks forward with emotional excitement to integrate the new and more advance math knowledge. Thus the learning in math progresses smoothly for all those who want to learn.

The highest form of emotional knowledge is wisdom which projects a self image less self, which means that the person at the wisdom stage knows, understands and just is his true self. Thus the aim of wisdom education is to replace the projection by the brain of a self image with the projection of the true self. This projection of the self image happens due to a set patterned physical reaction in the brain generated by the ignorance lodged in the brain, this ignorance I have termed as Emotional Brain Garbage ( EBG ). This EBG powered brain generates electrochemical reactions again and again solidifying a self image that gradually gets to be the old well entrenched 'knowledge' (ignorance). The student begins to believe his self image to be his true self. There develops a strong and steadfast emotional bond between the self image and the brain. The self image is a known quantity. The person feels that if he is good or bad after all it is his own true self. So even though the self image is phony; it is for all practical purposes in his own belief his true self.
In the case of teaching emotional intelligence it is very hard to replace ignorance with knowledge simply because there is an emotional attachment to the old ignorance. Not only is the emotional ignorance lodged in the brain it actually is integrated into the physical infrastructure of the brain. Thus when we try to teach wisdom what we are trying to do is to tell the student to give up what he believes is his own self to be. Thus we are telling the self image to destroy its own existence! The self image is alive, it has its own agenda, it has become used to its own life. It has its own likes and dislikes and above all it considers its own self to be much more important even though it is not so in real life. As it believes in its own phony importance what wisdom knowledge is trying to do is to tell the self image to accept that it is not that important, that in fact its importance is zero.
In our own lower level minds we all believe we are kings. Try telling and convincing a king that he is not a king! Even if you take away his kingdom he will still believe all his kingdom less life that he is still a king. It is the same with the self image. Thus to remove ignorance we have to remove the self image. And it cannot be done by persuasion as the self image will in fact resist all ways to kill itself. So we do not tell the self image to kill itself. It will never happen, no wonder preaching and persuasion have little effect.
What we need to do is to remove and kill its power source. The self image is a projection, where the projector is the brain. To shut off the projector we switch off the electric power to the projector. The power to the self image is provided by the EBG lodged in the brain. Thus if we take out the EBG we switch off the power source of the self image. Once the students self image is deprived of its power source it dies, making the brain squeaky clean. A squeaky clean brain projects the true self the ultimate goal of emotional intelligence education.
